Physical & Chemical Properties

Commercial grade (55% active): Colorless to pale yellow clear liquid.
Pure powder form: White crystalline solid.
It is water-soluble, with mild characteristic odor.
pH value (10% aqueous solution): 6.0–7.5.
Density @25℃: 1.14–1.17 g/ml.
Heat stable, suitable for normal cosmetic production temperature.
Stable in pH 6–8 formulation systems.

Function & Antimicrobial Feature

DMDM Hydantoin is a broad-spectrum formaldehyde-releasing preservative.
It effectively inhibits gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, yeast and mould.
It slowly releases trace formaldehyde to prevent microbial contamination.
It protects water-based products from spoilage and extends shelf life.

Application Fields

Leave-on cosmetics: facial cream, body lotion, makeup products.
Rinse-off products: shampoo, shower gel, liquid soap, conditioner.
Wet wipes, hair styling gel, sunscreen and other personal care items.
Water-based industrial formulations.

Recommended Dosage

0.1% – 0.6% based on total weight of finished cosmetic products.
Comply with regional cosmetic regulations for maximum usage limit.
It can be compounded with IPBC or parabens for better preservative effect.
